Thank You Letter from MHAF Executive Director, Adrienne McBride
Each day we come to work, we know that there are one million adults with autism living with a caregiver over the age of 60. Parents across the country are asking, “What will happen to my child when I am gone?”
In these uncertain times, Madison House Autism Foundation (MHAF) is focused on finding answers. From housing to employment to understanding ever-changing regulations, our mission is to address issues impacting individuals throughout adulthood. We understand the national need and are creating innovative solutions to empower adults with autism and their families across the country.
With a mission as big as ours, we need a lot of support. Fortunately, we have some of the best volunteers and partners in the world. Over the past few weeks, hundreds of you stepped up to show that you care about autistic adults, and here are some examples:
- Hope Garden Ballet Academy arranged a gorgeous benefit show to support programs at our therapeutic refuge, Madison Fields.
- Scores of you played in our annual golf tournament, with proceeds benefiting an innovative housing prototype for adults with autism. Many of your businesses even partnered with us to further our efforts.
- The American Airlines “Do Crew” came to Madison Fields and built a picnic table from scratch. Now, sitting atop “Wow Hill,” that picnic table has become a place for sharing meals and facilitating connections between adults with autism, wounded veterans, and other visitors.
- Chico’s in Potomac, MD held a “Do Good. Look Good.” event where 10% of sales went to support MHAF programs.
To everyone who made a difference this month, you inspire us and keep us moving forward. We deeply thank you. We cannot do our work alone, and your giving spirit has shown us that we don’t have to.
