Help Build a Better Future for Adults with Autism this #GivingTuesday
#GivingTuesday is the time to act. According to the CDC, 1 in 68 American children is diagnosed with autism, and the prevalence is rising. These children will one day become adults, facing unique challenges that our society is unprepared to meet. 75% of adults with autism and other intellectual/developmental disabilities live with aging parents. What will happen when these parents are no longer able to provide care?
Whether you know an adult or child on the spectrum, he or she will be affected by the choices our society makes today. Adults on the autism spectrum encounter an array of challenges, including unemployment, dependency on the state and aging caregivers, social isolation, and even homelessness. Madison House Autism Foundation (MHAF) believes that this is a civil rights issue that must be addressed now, before it’s too late.
MHAF is dedicated to creating awareness of the lifespan issues autistic adults and their families face. By finding, developing, and promoting innovative solutions, MHAF is helping adults with autism to make choices, live as independently as possible, hold jobs, feel connected to their communities, and become participating members of our society. If we do not act now, it is unclear what the future will hold for this vulnerable population and their families. Together, we can change lives and bring hope to struggling families all over the country.
If helping individuals with autism and their loved ones is a cause that is close to your heart, consider donating to Madison House Autism Foundation this Giving Tuesday, December 1, 2015 or make your contribution now. Let’s build a better future together.
